Nav Gurm's Vision for Fresno.
Addressing Cost of Living
Fresno families, like mine and yours, are feeling the pinch of rising costs—from inflation and gas prices to housing and utilities. I will fight to ensure that our local utility rates remain affordable and that every city service is cost-effective for our residents.
Strengthening Public Safety
A safe Fresno is a thriving Fresno. I will work to ensure that our police and fire departments have the resources and personnel they need to protect and serve our neighborhoods.
Investing in Fresno’s Economy
To build a stronger economy, we need to support the backbone of our city—small businesses—while fostering innovation and recruiting major employers offering career-track jobs
Parks
Our parks are vital spaces for families, children, and seniors alike. I will launch an annual survey to ensure our parks are clean, accessible, and meeting the needs of every resident.
Fair Share of Dollars
Fresno deserves its fair share of state and federal funding. I will work tirelessly to bring those dollars home.
Homelessness
Homelessness requires a compassionate yet practical approach. I will foster partnerships between the city, county, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to deliver real solutions.
Infrastructure
Fresno’s roads, sidewalks, and infrastructure need serious attention. I will prioritize fixing potholes, modernizing our transit systems, and ensuring that every neighborhood has access to safe and reliable infrastructure.
Sports and Entertainment
Sports and entertainment bring communities together and put cities on the map. I’ll work to bring professional soccer to Fresno, support Fresno State’s entry into the PAC-12, and advocate for expanding entertainment venues across the city. Sports can be a catalyst for economic growth and civic pride.
A Vision for Blackstone and Manchester Mall
Manchester Mall has the potential to become Fresno’s first major mixed-use development—a vibrant space where people can live, work, shop, and play. I will work with developers, investors, and community members to turn this vision into reality, making Blackstone a corridor of opportunity for all.
Housing
Fresno must address its housing crisis by increasing the supply of all types of housing—affordable units, starter homes, and market-rate apartments. I will streamline approval processes and work with builders to ensure we meet the needs of a growing population without sacrificing quality or sustainability.
Engaging the Youth
Our city’s future depends on our young people. I will create initiatives to engage youth in decision-making processes, expand mentorship and internship opportunities, and support programs that inspire the next generation of Fresno leaders. Investing in our youth is investing in Fresno’s success.
Seniors and Veterans
Our seniors and veterans have given so much to our community, and it’s time we give back. I will advocate for expanded senior services, improved healthcare access, and programs that honor and support our veterans. Ensuring dignity and opportunity for these groups is a personal priority for me.
Constituent Services
Every resident deserves to have their voice heard. I will establish accessible office hours, improve communication channels, and ensure that every concern—big or small—is addressed promptly. My commitment is to serve as an advocate for every person in District 7 – you deserve a response from your Councilmember.
Fiscal Responsibility
Fresno’s budget must reflect the priorities of its residents. I will ensure that every dollar spent delivers tangible results, cutting waste and increasing transparency. Fiscal responsibility isn’t just about balancing the budget—it’s about investing in our community’s future.
